IFY - International Foundation Year

US Students: This qualification will help bridge the gap between your local high school and university admissions requirements. This program is designed to give you the academic skills needed to boost your admission chances at top universities around the world.

International students: The IFY program is normally required by students who have completed high school outside of the UK or US education system and/or in a language other than English. This program will help bridge the gap between your local education and university study and is designed to give you the academic and English language skills needed to succeed at an international university.

The IFY program is a nine month program divided in two semesters.

Depending on your IFY chosen track, you will study three academic subjects to prepare you for the Bachelor’s degree you want to study at university. You will also study an English for Academic Purposes course to prepare you for the academic English language skills needed for university.

International Students: You must be 17 years old, have completed 12 years of high school education and meet one of the following admission requirements:

• a recognised English language qualification e.g. IELTS 5.0 or TOEFL IBT with 35
• pass the Artemis - NCUK IFY Online Entrance

US Students: You must be 17 years old, pass the Artemis - NCUK IFY Online Entrance Test, and meet one of the following admission requirements

• US High School Diploma: Successful completion including good passes in Maths for Engineering related progression. 
• General Education Development Tests (GED): Successful completion of each of the four tests with a mark of 145 or more in each test.
• International Baccalaureate: Successful completion with a minimum of 22 points.

NCUK awards the final certificate. Upon successful completion you will receive a certificate showing that you have passed the course and a transcript that details your individual module results.

NCUK’s International Foundation Year is formally recognised by leading universities worldwide allowing you to gain access to top-ranked international universities.

We know that not all students achieve their predicted grades. Because of NCUK’s unique relationship with the partner Universities, we are able to offer a Clearing Service. If you don’t get into your first choice University, we can still find you a suitable alternative. You receive a set of guaranteed offers at the same time that you get your results. All you have to do is choose the one that’s right for you.

For guaranteed admission at an NCUK University you must meet the following requirements:

• 96 NCUK points on the subject modules; and
• EAP: a minimum of overall grade C with no less than grade D in each EAP skills component (Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking).

The guaranteed entry requirements do not apply to students applying to study dentistry or medicine. These programmes have limited availability as well as additional requirements in the application process (e.g. interviews and admissions tests such as UCAT).
